BUILDING A PONDLESS WATERFALL

Springwater Water Features of Bismarck, IL, recently constructed a pondless waterfall next to our sunroom.  We have planted several kinds of vegetation in the area, set an arbor and walkway, and put in concrete benches.  As with any construction project, sometimes things didn't go as planned, but in the end, we have a beautiful landscape feature to enjoy and also attracts the wild life of the area.

It all started with an endloader and a backhoe.

While trying to remove a stump, a dent was put in the gasline to the garage.

The boulders were moved into place with the backhoe and then positioned by manpower.

Gary, Jackson, and Cole position underlayment against the rocks to hold the soil.

Digging the retention basin.

In this photo the downspout on the side of the house is attached to a drainage line to supple-ment the retention basin when it rains.

The red line marks the proposed stream flow.

Digging out the retention basin to make the "crates" fit.

Cole and Jackson adjust the underlay-ment in the retention bason.

It took many hands and lots of muscle to carry and lay the rubber liner.
There are 24 crates, 4 rows of 3 and 2 deep, in the retention basin to support the surface and enable the basin to hold water with little displacement from the crates.

To be continued . . . . .
