Sammi arrived at our house via the Furrers. Linda called and wanted to know if we wanted another black cat. Ron had found her in their driveway the previous night. Jerry and I went to see her and decided that Smokey needed a playmate. She was a great hunter--catching mice and bringing them to us; sometimes depositing them on our bed in the middle of the night. She also liked to catch birds and bunnies. That wasn't so good. I would scold her, but it didn't stop her.
When we returned from our recent Florida vacation, we noticed that she was moving slower and hiding in the cabinet more. Today we took her to the vet, and she said that she had heart failure and labored breathing, as well as possible kidney failure. We didn't want to put her through the trauma of tests that Katie had suffered, and we decided to release her to the Rainbow Bridge. We will miss her.
