MEMORIAL TO AUNT HELEN VOWLES (MARCH 28, 1920 - DECEMBER 31, 2007)





HELEN M. VOWLES, 87 CHERRY VALLEY - Helen M. Vowles, also known as Granny Tobars, 87, of Cherry Valley died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, in SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford, after a lengthy illness. She was born March 28, 1920, in Boone County, the daughter of Charles and Jessie Diamond. Married John Vowles on May 4, 1938, in Belvidere. Lived all her life in Boone County, was a homemaker and farmed with her husband. Member of Flora Community Church and the Ladies Aid of the church. Also a member of Royal Neighbors of America and PAWS Humane society. Helen liked to go to garage sales, collect newspaper clippings and cookbooks, loved gardening and her two cats, PeeWee and Tobars. She is survived by daughters, Beverly (James) Redfern of Belvidere, Dianne Block of Rockford and Beth Jodun of Cherry Valley; grandchildren, Matthew Redfern and Michelle (Will) Yanez; great-grandchildren, Hallie Redfern, Willie Yanez, Arianna Yanez, Felecia Dowdy and Chanse Springer. Predeceased by parents; husband; son, John W. Vowles; granddaughter, Angela Jean Redfern; son-in-law, Bill Jodun; brothers, Charles, Claire, George; and sister, Marie Vowles. A special thank you to Maria, her caregiver, and all her neighbors who helped her. Service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in Belvidere Funeral Home, 203 Logan Ave., Belvidere, the Rev. Ron Meyer, pastor of Flora Community Church, officiating. Interment in Flora Cemetery, Irene. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to PAWS Humane Society.
